Arena Fundamentals: Ice Installation & Arena Systems - Red Deer

REGISTRATION IS OPEN! You must have an active 2026 membership to be able to register.

(Formerly Arena Operator Level 1) This course is a hands-on introduction to the science and skill of creating and maintaining high-quality ice surfaces. It will give participants the practical knowledge needed to operate safely and confidently in an arena setting. Learners explore every stage of ice installation and care—from preparing and sealing the slab, performing initial floods, applying white paint, and installing lines, circles, and logos, to troubleshooting humidity, water quality, and temperature issues that affect ice performance. The course also covers the fundamentals of ammonia and synthetic refrigeration systems, plant start-up and shutdown, and core maintenance practices. Through instructor demonstrations, guided practice, and real-world conversations, participants develop a strong operational foundation and the technical judgment required to keep ice consistent, safe, and efficient for all user groups.

Thank you to our sponsor, Startec Refrigeration Services, for their ongoing support.
